![]() Only sample libraries that have been sent by the library’s developer to Native Instruments for encoding show up here and they work not only in the full version of Kontakt but also in the free Kontakt Player. The Libraries tab displays all of the Kontakt libraries that have been installed using the “Add Library” button. If you can’t see the browser you need to open it by clicking the “Browse” button located at the left of Kontakt’s top menu. This image is probably one you’re familiar with. It’s the Libraries tab in Kontakt’s browser window. The information presented in this guide is applicable to most third-party Kontakt sample libraries but there are always exceptions so it’s important that you read the user guides that come with the libraries you purchase. Here we’re going to focus on the latter as those are the ones that you’re more likely to struggle with loading into Kontakt (the first time at least). Those that run in the free Kontakt Player and those that will only work with the full (paid) version of Kontakt. Lets hope it stays that way.Kontakt sample libraries come in two flavours. Between them they’d locked me out of my own files.Īs a final note, I have reinstalled BitDefender and everything appears to be working again. So, the issue was a combination of how Windows deals with 3rd party anti-virus software and BitDefender. Without doing anything else I fired up Native Access (I didn’t delete the Public folder mentioned above at all) and Straylight was immediately activated. By uninstalling BitDefender access to the controlled folders immediately returned along with the options in Windows Security to change Controlled Folder Access settings. If that’s installed, the Controlled Folder Access option disappears from your Windows Security settings. So what was going on? The answer was a 3rd party anti-virus, in my case BitDefender Internet Security. I tried registry hacks to get round that with no luck. However, the options in Windows to turn that on or off had disappeared. The cause appeared to be something to do with “Controlled Folder Access” in Windows (this is mentioned in the Native Instruments article about fixing this issue). I tried everything I could think of to modify permissions, hacks using elevated command prompts and even Powershell, all to no avail. ![]() To make matters worse I discovered that I could no longer change any files in folders like My Documents! That’s odd because I’m the only user of the machine and I am the administrator. The problem I encountered was that I could no longer modify that folder at all. That solution suggests that you delete the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Native Instruments folder. There’s a link to an article in the error message in Native Access: I’m on Windows 10 and the following applies to that operating system only.įirstly, if this happens to you do try the solution suggested by Native Instruments. The reason turned out to be quite unexpected. I tried the demo first but when it came to activating the full product the activation constantly failed. I recently bought the Straylight soft synth from Native Instruments.
